Literary Workshops

Workshop Ideas

  • Bring in a local author or editor for a workshop about publishing.
  • Invite local teachers for a workshop on actual classroom experience.
  • Conduct a grad school prep workshop.
  • Conduct an editing/publishing workshop.
  • Sponsor a workshop on writing professional credentials for graduate students in English.
  • Run a poetry workshop as part of a larger, campus-wide event.

Suggestions for Implementation

  • Make sure your speakers are comfortable with, and well informed about, the topic and expectations. Make sure this person knows if he or she will be answering questions or simply giving a lecture. Also, let the speaker know if anyone else will be speaking.
  • Provide refreshments afterward or during an intermission. Free food and beverages help attract students and provide a good opportunity for socializing.
  • Make sure the room you have chosen is large enough, easy to find, and has a controlled climate.
  • Make sure you have enough chairs so you don't have to interrupt the speaker to set up more. It is also important to provide water for speakers.
  • ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE! Let your Regent and Student Representative know what you are doing so they can let other chapters in your region know what you are planning.
